Our Pugs
Life is good for an Ugly Mugs pug…
Our breeding dogs live in a comfortable, temperature controlled building complete with a play room and a group outdoor play yard. Each individual pug run is large enough for two or three pug friends to live together. Pugs are far too sociable to be kept in solitary confinement! Playful pugs need lots of toys, which we sanitize and rotate through the pens for variety. Everyone has plenty of rawhide chews. Keeping dogs happy and occupied is an important part of being a responsible breeder.
Ugly Mugs girls are never bred every cycle, and we retire them at age four. Retired pugs are spayed or neutered and placed in carefully screened pet homes. You can learn more about the indulged life of an Ugly Mugs pug when you read about us.

Frank
Otherwise known as 'the boyfriend hound', Frank is one of our best beloved dogs. He has a beautiful, massive head, plush double coat, and excellent bone. That is his portrait to the right at the top of each page of our website. Frank's veterinary inspection revealed that he has unusually clear airways for a pug. But what makes Frank special is his temperament. He is the most gentle, loving and patient dog ever! Frank spends a lot of time in the house watching football with Dad, playing dress up with the children, or lying in the middle of the kitchen while Mom is trying to cook. Frank's great ambition is to be retired from our breeding program, be neutered, and become a full-time couch potato. Frank will never be available to a pet home - he is already our darling! |
Tank
Born right here on the farm, Tank is just joining the Ugly Mugs sire line up.
Tank is everything we strive for in our breeding program. He has massive, solid bone, straight legs, and big strong feet. He can run and play until we are all exhausted from trying to keep up with him and he still isn't out of breath. Tank has a level topline, a double-curl tail, a velvety double coat, and just look at those wrinkles! We call him our mini-mastiff. Even though he has finally grown up, Tank still thinks he's a great big puppy. He loves to act silly to get attention, and cries like a baby puppy when he gets excited about a car ride.
His very first litter of puppies is due in mid-May. We all hope that they are just like their Daddy!

Bessy
Our nutty puppy! Bessy makes everyone laugh with her ridiculous antics. She is exceptionally athletic - Bessy can jump on the couch from behind it, and seems to like to do so best when someone is sitting on the couch with a full mug of hot coffee. Bessy was unusually easy to house train. One of our silliest pugs, we expect Bessy to produce puppies with exceptional temperaments. She and Tank are expecting a litter in mid-May. They should be very special puglets! One girl is for us. The others will be available to pre-approved families with an excellent sense of humor. That's Bessy's portrait on the left at the top of each page on our website. |
Tillie
Tillie came to us from a less than ideal situation. She was very shy when she arrived. That didn't last long! The first step in getting anything done in the pug house is making sure that Tillie is shut away somewhere. She loves to 'help', usually by grabbing gloves or extra clothing and capering away with them. Tillie is a great favorite with the kids because she loves to participate in hole digging, stick gathering, and games of keep-away.

Maudie
Maudie was a bit of a shrinking violet when she came to us from Piney Creek Kennel. Today she apologetically but insistently climbs right into the lap of anyone who sits down in her presence. Maudie's muzzle is longer than a typical pug's. She is able to breathe easily and was even able to take the sacs off of her own puppies. Maudie loves being a mother and caring for her puppies.
|
Angel
What a character! Angel loves everything and everyone except for Maudie, even though they grew up together at Piney Creek Kennel. Angel is a bit of a spoiled brat, and tends to whine if someone else gets cuddled first. If she doesn't get service fast enough, the whining escalates into howling! Angel thinks that she is a great cat hunter. Unfortunately, she's frightened of them when they get up close, so thus far she's had to stick with just barking at the cat from a distance.

Crystal
Our 'prettiest' pug, Crystal has a very correct head, and most people can tell she's a girl without looking. Crystal likes to 'snerk' and snort to get attention, although she's quite capable of breathing silently. Crystal's only trick is sitting. The moment she sees the dog biscuit bag, her little rump hits the floor and she won't stand up no matter what until she gets her treat. Crystal is one of our most gentle, sweet tempered pugs. Her son Tank is our up and coming sire.

Zucchini
Daughter of Frank and Tillie, 'Zuke' is a keeper! She belongs to daughter Emily.
Zucchini is a very pretty pug, with a perfectly level topline and shapely little feet. Her favorite activities are ripping around outdoors with her buddy Cupcake and coming inside to watch movies with the kids. Zucchini's future puppies will continue the Ugly Mugs line of black pugs bred for health, vigor, and temperament.

Cupcake
Lovely Miss Cupcake comes from AKC champion bloodlines, but no sacrifices have been made of her health and strength. We hope some of her future puppies might have show potential. For now, we'll just watch her playing keep away with anything she can snatch away from her buddy and kennel mate Zucchini.
